Getting Ready for Tybee Tyme...

I made a Euro to match the fabric on the Chaise Lounge on the Sun Porch at Paws & Paddles Cottage.  Love the chaise but needed a little more support for the aching back...turns out the Worst thing for back pain is sitting, the only thing worse is sitting in a recliner. Of course I have recliners on all three floors on the Mountain...not good. Hoping the pillow will add some support. Planning on lots of beach walking, and biking for the next two weeks, along with a promise to the PT folks to do my PT routine twice a day...no small feat since it takes 45 minutes minimum each time.  I plan to give it my best for the next two weeks...not sitting at a desk...and staying mobile is supposed to help...they mentioned avoiding stress...not sure how to implement that strategy...lol...

Stage 4 of the outdoor turtle painting. Planning on putting it out on the fence near the outdoor shower. Still noodling as my friend Dale says...The good news I paint standing up so that works with the PT plan of keeping moving and avoiding sitting...of course I do have to sit for 7 hours to drive to Tybee...but I will have 2 weeks to keep it mobile. Wish me luck!

Downtown Living Tour 2011 - Roanoke, VA

Downtown Roanoke has come along away from the day when the downtown area was basically boarded up. Today we have almost 1400 people living downtown in lofts, apartments, and condos. We have a world class museum and still retain our railroad roots and our hokie but much loved giant neon star atop Mill Mountain which is located in Roanoke City.  The Downtown Living Tour to showcase some of the new uses for old buildings was today. I have a few shots to share...would have had more but forgot one should charge their camera before planning a last minute photo shoot...oh well...here goes!  THE Roanoke STAR atop Mill Mountain!

A good sample of some of the restored buildings. The taller of the two has been gutted and is ready for serious loft construction...design what you love... it's a blank slate with lots of exposed brick walls and tin ceilings.

This is a good example of what is being done with these buildings. The counters and floors are concrete...the counter material morphed into sinks in the kitchen and bath...kinda of like a high class horse trough! Loved it.

You have to love a dining table that is also a billard table and a poker table. I understand the legs adjust the height as needed! Awesome design.

Concrete counters morph into actual sinks in the kitchen and baths...how smart!

Bath sink...very Guy Friendly...

One of several very large murals on the sidewalk entrances to the Farmers Market building on the historic Roanoke City Market.

The Taubman Art Museum...amazing building for a small city of 100,000!

Wet bar with wine fridge...

Thanks Arts Council !

Turtle Painting for Paws and Paddles Cottage on Tybee Island!

This is stage 3...more noodling yet...not sure how many stages...it has turned more green than I envisioned...ummm...more work to do.

Plan on installing on the fence near the outdoor shower. Heading down for 2 full weeks in Tybee soon. If I don't finish it here...challenging with work, mom care, physical  therapy, Hershey fun, etc. I will finish it on Tybee.

Suggestions on the continued noodling with this painting welcomed...

Stage Two of a Turtle Painting for the Deck near the Outdoor Shower!

I started a 24x48 inch painting to go outdoors on the fence near the outdoor shower at Paws and Paddles.  It always takes about 10 stages...to get it finished. This is the second stage. Still deciding if I should add a few fish, etc.  maybe a seahorse?

Laundry and Patio Improvements at the Mountain Cottage!

Used some pretty fabric and Tybee Turquoise paint to spruce up the Basement side Laundry Room...

Used a section of the fabric to go in a ugly old frame I already had...thought the limey green worked on it well! Thank goodness for spray paint. 10 minutes and you are good to go.

I used the same fabric to make a skirt to cover the Ugly Laundry sink...Mike figured out the Velcro application and I just had to cut it out and hem all sides. I could have gathered it...I suppose...but I don't like fussy fru fru...tailored was the way to go for me...and it also used less fabric. The fabric was 40% off at JoAnn fabrics but still more than I hoped to spend. Glad I got a couple of other projects out of it...a small pillow for my office chair at work for the bad back, the framed print, and a plate I have plans for with the last piece of fabric. So I think this still qualifies as thrifty!

If you have amazingly shrarp eye sight you might have noticed the tiny bear next to the frame on the shelf...it says...GrandMa! A gift from the superwonderfulgrandboy!

The planned Plate...to add some Hodge Podge to
for a wall hanging...I later found an odd matching blue plate that I will use instead...unless someone calls me quick and claims the dark blue one! Thinking it was left here with cookies on it...so hoping you didn't want it back! Fair Warning.

That Limey Spray paint covered the storage basket and a small $2.00 metal pail just the right size for clothes pins and fabric sheets!

If you have not tried a spray handle that just fits on the spray paint can...you will want to...amazing how easy and you end up with a much better result and NO paint on your hands at all. Betting you already knew that...but I didn't until design Maven Jane Coslick clued me in...thanks Jane!

Mike is still planning on hanging my Large White Wooden Letters over the units ...W A S H   &  D R Y as well as a 6 foot long closet rod hanging from the rafters from 2 feet of chain...for the ideal place to hang clothes as the exit the dryer...hopefully before the wrinkles set in...I sincerely dislike ironing. I can at least NOW find my Iron...which had been a challenge in the past. The door from the media room to the basement laundry area turned out to be the Perfect Place to put a behind the door ironing board and iron holder! Saw this at a hotel I stayed in...thank you Conrad Hilton!  I even dressed up the 30 year old ironing board with a new cover in a riot of colors...so fashion can even improve an ironing board.  I will add pictures of the finishing touches when the superwonderfulhandyhusband finishes.

The Patio was less that cozy since we had a stellar view of the
air conditioning units and lots of dank dark dirt and leaves.
The superwonderfulhandyhusband installed two wooden closet
rods...we bought $24 worth of curtains with button tabs at the new
Olllies...and we now have a lovely wall instead! It was a foggy rainy Labor Day...but we made the most of it!

Hershey crashing on the Day Bed on the Sun Porch at Paws & Paddles!  Is that relaxed or what?

While he is resting I have been working on the Laundry room...hemming fabric for a skirt to go around the laundry sink. Working on an idea for hanging letters ...W A S H   D R Y...and a wall hanging from fabric....
plus reorganizing shelves...I think I got the LABOR thing wrong...Hershey's Idea is Much Better!

Happy Labor Day!

Awesome !

Ahhhhh...

I just love this room...I am thinking the menu must have been a cool summer salad and Lobster bites!

My favorite painting of the summer...clearly not mine...but I lusted after this one for sure...at Dragonfly Studios on Tybee Island!

My favorite painting at the Telefair in Savannah. The Dark Prince of Wales. Huge Painting and very moving...Mikie is standing in front for a gauge of the size of the painting.

Mike at our favorite spot on Tybee...right next to our beach swing on the north beach...thanks to the City of Tybee for having loads of swings, boardwalks, benches, etc. to relax on. We rarely even bother to carry our chairs...no need and it leaves you free for really long shelling walks in the water!

Home at Paws & Paddles! Looking forward to cooler weather and fall at the beach!

Things To Take to Tybee in Oct.

We are looking forward to returning to Tybee Island and Paws and Paddles in Oct. for two weeks. I keep finding things that I want to add to the cottage. We have three dancing mermaids that are destined for Tybee Tyme! The are whiling away their time suspended from the fireplace in the great room. Thinking they may go out on the sun porch. Our master bedroom has chest and night stand fit the master suite perfectly but I was one night stand short. We are making do with a taller/smaller than desired table as a night stand. Luckily New 2 Me our fun local consignment shop happened on exactly the style and size of night stand for us! So it is waiting for a ride south as well. I am planning on making a pillow for the chaise on the sun room from sample fabric from Jane. Got to get that done this week end. I have been plotting and planning a very large logger head turtle painting...thinking three smaller turtles all partially in view and partially out of view on a Tybee Turquoise background...so gotta get that done soon. I bought a beautiful Gardenia bush that will not winter over in Virginia but it will in sunny Georgia...so he is going with us. And last but not least Hershey will be going along for the trip. We may have a guest visiting with her cat so that may be interesting. He is always so good that I am not worried. He is sacked out under my recliner as I type this...he prefers to keep me in sight. Adorable big baby. He has added a lot to our lives. As a friend said...not sure who rescued who!
